Dandelion Butter
Hyper-real in its initial impression of a just-picked dandelion flower — stemmy, pollen-filled and reminiscent of warm, blue-sky summer days — cue crickets.
But what about the butter? Instead of this being an overtly rich gourmand composition, butteriness is realized as the vibrantly verdant opening melts into a radiant, golden drydown. On some, milky creaminess emerges. On others, a cozy warmth glows.
From Clue
Sun-lit leaves, airborne pollen catching light,
squinting at the sky, pale green, the creamy butyricy
of sweat on skin, the creamy butyricy of butter
Dandelion Butter, is inspired by a centuries-old folk game commonly played by school children. A plucked dandelion is held under someone’s chin as they’re asked “Do you
like butter?”.
If the bloom casts a yellow glow upon their chin, it means they “like butter”. In some versions of the game, the head of the flower is rubbed onto the participant’s chin, leaving a bright yellow streak that indicates an obvious love of butter. It’s an illogical question and an unnatural gesture – raising your face to the sun as your chin is studied with intimate intensity. Taking from this rural amusement tradition, Dandelion Butter is bright, playful, and imbued with naïveté.
